Highlights of OMNI's 2015 services
96% of clients had no additional criminal charges while under OMNI care. OMNI's juvenile justice program keeps kids like Max out of jail. He was 15 when he was arrested for fighting and gang involvement. OMNI staff helped Max develop coping skills to control his anger and work through issues he had regarding family trauma in his past. He stopped skipping school and fighting, distance himself from the gang and began getting his academics back on track.
"At OMNI, even the kids teach each other. Counselors approach things differently, and I felt like I was going to learn something different every time I came. They gave me the chance to support and change my life," - Max
"SPARC's helped me learn about myself, how to deal with the loss of my mom and talk about it, what triggers my strong reactions and taught me how to calm myself, get control and perspective," - Danielle.
Over 90% of youth in OMNI's SPARC's program increased use of positive coping skills and decreased use of harmful coping behaviors. OMNI's SPARC's program keeps kids like Danielle from self-harming behaviors and suicide. When Danielle's mom was killed in a car accident, she became depressed, began using drugs and alcohol to numb the pain and cut herself. OMNI helped Danielle talk through her emotions and taught her healthy coping skills such as relaxation techniques, self-awareness, self-expression and communication. Danielle no longer uses drugs and alcohol or cuts herself, and she finally looks forward to her future.
